When Amanda was in college, she came across a squirrel with almost no fur. It was winter in Michigan and she was terrified the squirrel would freeze. After numerous calls, she finally met a wildlife rehabber, and by spring Amanda was volunteering at a local songbird rehab center. All it took was the first day of training and she was hooked. So much for her plans to become a vet. She finished her degree and became a wildlife rehabilitator instead - with zero regrets. In her 15th year of rehabbing, Amanda now cares for squirrels, raccoons, fox, birds of prey, songbirds, rabbits, otters, waterbirds and opossums. No amount of poison ivy, thorns, or freezing cold water will stop her from rescuing an animal in need!
