Cindy's stepfather was a veterinarian so she grew up around all kinds of animals. As a child she would bring home orphaned and injured animals and her "Pop" would treat them then they would release them back into the wild or care for them if they were unable to be released. Now later in life, Cindi recently retired from the medical field where she worked for 37 years helping people. Now with more free time, she is volunteering with Wetland and Wildlife Care Center. Their location near a Least Tern protected area and the Bolsa Chica Wetlands means they receive many wetland birds as well as mammals including raccoons, squirrels, opossums, bunnies and more. Many of these animals need round the clock care so they go to homecare facilities like Cindi's. She currently uses heating pads to warm the babies but an incubator will provide the babies with more consistent heat. Cindi says that taking care of these orphaned babies is hard and often heart breaking work but also very rewarding when you release them back into the wild. She loves being a part of the dedicated, passionate and hard working caregivers helping Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center.
