Eileen has always loved helping birds and mammals. About 27 years ago she received a magazine with a wildlife rescue and rehab article that listed California rehab organizations and their meeting dates. Eileen went to the meeting thinking she did not know enough about how to care for wildlife, but was happily surprised to find that the other volunteers were happy to train people. After some instruction, she was fortunate enough to take a little injured screech owl home. It was her first rehab and she was in heaven. Eileen has now been a wildlife rehabber for about 27 years, specializing in hummingbirds and songbirds. She feels lucky to be part of their lives for a little bit, and to be able to help them have another chance to be free again in nature. Songbird/Hummingbird rehab can get pretty busy, especially during "baby season". Nestling hummingbirds are fed every 15 minutes 14 hours a day, and young songbirds eat every 1/2 hour all day. As with most wildlife rehabbers, for Eileen it is not a hobby, but a strong passion to help birds and mammals. She would love to have incubator for nestlings who come in, or to calm and warm injured hummingbirds and songbirds.
