Hilary always seemed to be a magnet for sick and injured animals, even from a very young age. She worked with horses in the UK and always seemed to be rescuing other animals as well. When she moved to the US in 1969, it wasn't long before there was a bird who needed help. Now 46 years later, she's fully permitted (state and federal) and helps as many as 1000 animals each year -- fox, raccoons, skunks, beaver, squirrels, groundhogs and many others who need a helping hand. When Hilary's hands aren't full of animals, she also helps spread her knowledge and love of wildlife through educational lectures, as well as to her 5 grandchildren. The best part of her work is watching animals being released back into the wild. Hilary says it's the best reward, and something she could not do without the support of family and friends.
