Jason found a baby Eastern Gray Squirrel buried in the storm debris of Hurricane Matthew. The baby was cold and lifeless, eyes closed, and Jason wasn't even sure if he was alive. He thought, "even if he is alive, he probably will not survive". Still, Jason scooped him up, held him to his heart to let his body heat warm his lifeless body, and asked God to save his life. A few seconds passed and Jason felt a small kick. At that moment, he just knew that nothing mattered more than doing everything he could to give him a fighting chance to live, and fight he did. A week later, his eyes opened and he began to grow strong. Jason says it was unbelievable how much the little squirrel changed his life. He has always loved animals, squirrels in particular, but after this experience, he knew he had a connection with the little furry critters. Jason realized that there were so many other babies out there just like little Matthew. After the squirrel was released back into the wild, it was clear to Jason that this is what he has to do. He has been caring for squirrels ever since, with the support of his animal loving family. An incubator will help him care for the tiniest little ones.
