Jenna grew up in a family of horticulturists. Squirrels were always enemy number one in their family garden and Jenna's parents came up with so many creative and humane ideas to repel squirrels from their yard. They were rarely successful and lost many a tulip bulb to squirrels. Jenna would become a marine biologist herself and if you told her 10 years ago that she would be dedicating her life to working with squirrels and skunks, she would have said you were crazy. But that's exactly what happened. In between zoo contracts about 6 years ago, she wanted to gain a little more experience with birds so she applied to volunteer at her local wildlife centre. Jenna never looked back and now cares for songbirds, ducks and geese, small mammals (squirrels, hares, skunks), medium sized mammals (porcupines, beavers, foxes), large mammals (deer fawns, moose calves), reptiles and amphibians. She says that there is nothing more incredible than releasing an animal back to the wild after nursing it back to health. It is literal "life and death" work and it is so rewarding despite being so heartbreaking at times.
