After a 33 year career in Engineering, Karen is thrilled to be able to do what she has always dreamed of doing - saving the lives of animals in need. At retirement, she began volunteering at local animal shelters and noticed a surprising number of wild animals that were brought in. When a pair of orphaned squirrels arrived, she knew she had to quickly mobilize and learn how to care for them. Under the guidance of local rehabbers, she successfully raised the babies and released them back into the wild. Karen researched how to obtain her own permit and now cares for squirrels, opossums, rabbits, turtles, chipmunks, ducks and geese. What makes it so rewarding is knowing that precious animals are being saved when they otherwise wouldn't have had a chance.
