After Tammy left her job as a high school history teacher, she wanted to help squirrels in any way she could. She now cares for up 25-50 or more squirrels, including lots of neonate squirrels, under the permit of Nebraska Wildlife Rehab. Although her baby formula and some food is supplied, everything else comes out of her pocket – cages, feeding equipment, bedding, heating pads, and just about everything else she needs to take care of the babies. Like most volunteer rehabbers, she currently uses heating pads to keep the babies warm. She’s sure the tiniest babies could do even better in an incubator of her own.
