I have a deep love and respect for all animals, especially those that need a little extra help. When given the opportunity to volunteer with Big Country Wildlife, I jumped at the chance. Over the years, I have taken on many roles with the organization, but my favorite will always be that of a "rehabber." There is something so special and indescribable about watching an animal grow from compromised to thriving to release and a second chance at their wild life. It is a blessing to be a part of that process.
A large part of my work is focused on neonates, tiny animals that have lost their mothers and depend completely on care to survive. Species like cottontail rabbits, opossums, raccoons, and skunks require frequent feedings, careful monitoring, and a very controlled environment, especially in their first days. These babies are extremely sensitive, and even small changes in temperature or humidity can affect their survival. Respiratory issues are also common, especially in animals that have aspirated or come in compromised. Having an incubator with humidity control and nebulizer capability would allow me to provide more consistent, supportive care for these fragile patients and improve their chances of survival.
