Growing up in the country, I have always loved wild life. As a young teen I rescued a flying squirrel. We kept him for the winter and successfully released him in the spring. No rehabbers back then. I was an ICU nurse for 38 years. After retirement at 62, I became a volunteer with a bird rehab near me. On a transport I met a rehabber who gave me a tour of her rehab facility. I was amazed at what at what I saw. She gave me the name of a facility closer to me, actually about an hour from my home. I met the owner of the rehab and spent the day with her. I was hooked and have been there for 5 years now. Her skill and devotion to the wildlife left me in awe of her. I had found a kindred spirit. Volunteering nearly fully time, it doesn't feel like work. I am reminded daily of the resilience of wild animals. I told Kathi that she named the rehab, Wilderness Miracles, perfectly. Every animal who makes it to the rehab and especially returns to the wild, is truly a miracle. Someone cared enough about the animal to contact us , giving it a second chance and we provided the care to ensure their survival. It doesn't get any bette than that.
