I got into wildlife rehabilitation in a peculiar way. I began by doing wildlife education through the Virginia Zoo, then the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center in Roanoke since I am a Virginia Tech student. This is where my passion sparked. I fell in love with rehabilitation. When I went back home for the summer, I began as an apprentice of a rehabber. I learned more and more each day. Learning at both the wildlife center and through other rehabbers has truly done a lot for me. I fell in love with opossums this past summer. I have always loved them, but something clicked. It started because I am pretty comfortable using a tube, so my sponsors encouraged me to work with them. Their perfect faces and sweet personalities changed everything. I work as a staff member at the wildlife center during the school year working with amazing animals like raptors, but my heart lies in these under appreciated animals.
