I got into wildlife rehab when I saw a post on Facebook about a two-day-old orphaned raccoon that no one else would take. I stepped in to help her, even though I had never raised a raccoon before. All I had was a heating pad, determination, and my vet assistant background. I reached out to people, did a ton of research, and gave it everything I had. That first little raccoon survived and was eventually released — it was such a rewarding experience.
After doing all that research, I realized that not a lot of people around here work with raccoons. I had fallen in love with them and wanted to do more, so I began the process of becoming a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Now, I focus on helping raccoons — smart, misunderstood animals that need care and attention, but that few people around me are willing to work with.
