My dogs found two very cold and wet baby squirrels in our back yard after Hurricane Helene. We had no power and no stores were open. In spite of the threat of losing our water; I warmed them up and kept them warm with water as hot as I could get it from the tap thanks to our gas hot water heater. I made a hydration solution I found a recipe for online and I just happened to have one can of Esbilac on hand as well as syringes and nipples that I keep in case my dogs find baby bunnies. I raised them on my internet research until they were ready for pre-release. Because they were late fall babies they needed somewhere to winter and with my dogs that’s not possible where I live. I reached out to PWRR and turned them over to them for the winter and was encouraged to keep an eye out for upcoming rehab classes. I love animals and enjoyed taking care of the little guys so when the classes came around I signed up and took the class. I brought home 4 more baby squirrels that day whose tree had been cut down. It is so rewarding to care for these babies and watch them grow and be able to go back to nature happy and healthy. PWRR is a great support system and I feel so much more equipped going forward.
